Stop asking me when I’m going to get married
Oh man, here it is. She’s going to ask me again. I know it.
“So Tiffany, when are you going to get married? Do you have a boyfriend yet?”
I cringe and die a little inside. My aunt asks me this every.single.time I see her, even if it’s only been a week since we’ve last seen each other; I know the moment she sees me, she’ll ask the question again.
It’s often made me wonder, what if I did tell her that I was getting married the very next week? Would she be surprised that I somehow managed to get engaged within a week of not seeing her?
Everyone has different lifestyles, different desires, and a different attitude towards life. Sometimes the idea of marriage doesn’t even cross our minds because we’re too busy dealing with other things that we’re more focused on — our career, our passions, our friendships, our personal growth. We can’t fulfill people’s expectation and live our lives according to those expectations. The milestones we set for ourselves are ours, not anyone else’s. There’s nothing wrong with being in a relationship or getting married, but it ultimately depends on that person’s perspective. It’s not just something you can, or should control because it’s their business, not yours.
