Questions that truly reveal someone’s personality and capabilities

People are like onions.

We show our best selves on the skin, hoping to get people to like us. To accept us.

We put on makeup. We dress up semi-formally. We hand out our business cards with a beaming grin. We polish our car(s). It’s these kind of “desirable” qualities that we feel completely secure about opening up to others.

But when it comes to the things that truly make us who we are, like our dreams, beliefs, feelings, emotions, thoughts, wishes and fears, we close ourselves up like a clam.

It’s not like we’d planned to be a reticent person. In fact, we’d like to trust someone to share our deepest secrets and hear out our problems.

But after years of getting hurt and taken advantage of from being too open, we’ve naturally built a wall to prevent most people from getting too close to us.

So how can we ‘innocently’ break people out of this protective shell and get them to open up to us? So we can understand their true personality and capabilities?

Ask them personal, thought-provoking questions.

Questions that are fun, casual, intriguing, and don’t hint any signs of manipulation.

What you’re about to see here are questions you can ask anyone to get a deeper scope of their personal life, thoughts, and beliefs. Questions I’ve discovered from Reddit, Wattpad, Thought Catalog, Mantelligence and misc sources. With these questions, you can figure out whether this person will be a keeper in your life.

Enjoy!

  1. Odysseus says:

There are some good questions here, but when it comes to getting to know someone there is no substitute for time.
That, and don’t ask then what they believe, but ask why they believe something.
And pay attention to their mix of friends. A person without longtime friends is probably trouble of some sort.

      You’re very right, Odysseus.

Time is one thing we don’t get enough of, which is why I think we need to evaluate people’s character early on before we invest too much time on the wrong person.

It’s a people skill though, and will take time to develop.

And yes, asking “why” people believe in something is a great way to understand them more.

Love your thoughts! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
